Building an empowering support network for incarcerated Muslims

Supporting the journey of inmates in and out of the prison walls through our inmate program, correspondence through letters, resources, scholarly guidance and tools for rehabilitation

Who we are

“They feed the needy, the orphan, and the prisoner, out of love for Him.” (Qur’ān, Sūrah al-Insān (76), Verse 8)

We are a non-profit organisation dedicated to our beloved 11th Imām Ḥasan al-ʿAskarī (ʿa), who spent the majority of his life in prison and under house arrest by the corrupt ruler of the time. He is the great grandson of our beloved Prophet Muḥammad (ṣ) and father of our beloved 12th Imām al-Mahdī (ʿaj).

What we do

The USA has the highest incarceration rate in the entire world.

While Americans only represent 5% of the entire world’s population, it comprises
nearly 25% of the entire world’s incarcerated population, with 2.3 million inmates.

Most of these prisoners will fall victim to the cycle of the revolving door and become repeat offenders if they do not have the proper resources to educate themselves properly while serving their sentences.

We seek to provide the proper tools for change and promoting awareness of the true teachings of Islam by teaching the morals and ethics of the Noble Prophet (‘a) and his divine household (s) in our program.

Hear from our inmates

“Brothers, it has been over 7 years since I have been involved with 2nd Chance. I have grown in understanding of my faith and have found your programs assistance invaluable.(…)
I will soon go home. My intentions are to go straight to a Howza. I am surrounded by Salafis, which is very popular with the inmates in Maryland. I am officially not welcomed by them.
I am ostracized by this Ummah. I draw my strength by Allah (swt). My faith holds me.
I could never turn my back on my Holy Ahlulbayt”.

– (A.S, maryland)

Our Current

Campaigns

Every little bit counts.

Your support is crucial to our mission of bringing Shīʿah Islam to those who need it the most- the incarcerated.

Your donations help us to continue sending Islamic literature and resources, creating uplifting magazines, and supporting our scholars to provide guidance to the inmates.

Sponsor a Qurʾān Campaign

2nd Chance is funded by individuals like you who donate and share your resources. These donations allow us to purchase books, packaging and office supplies, prayer rugs, postage, etc. With your generous donations, we have been able to increase our reach and receive more and more letters from prisoners each month. They express their desire for learning about the Noble Prophet and his divine household. With your contributions, we are able to provide them access to the information they need.

2nd Chance is authorized by several marājiʿ to collect khums for this project. If you would like to allocate your khums to us, please specify that the money you are sending is for khums and whether it is them complete khums or (the portion of)  Sahm Imam only.
