Our Programs

For current & former

inmates in the US

2nd Chance Books seek to provide the proper tools for change for incarcerated Muslims. Free Islamic books on topics such as beliefs, ethics, morality, and family structure in Islam. The aim is for these books to be used as a tool for self-development and reform.

Our program helps inmates mold into leaders, build good habits and achieve social reform, producing citizens who are able to actively help their communities, and promote awareness of the true teachings of Islam by teaching the morals and ethics of the Noble Prophet and his divine household.

We have regular correspondence with inmates through letters. We hear their reflections and stories and personally tailor the books we send to their needs and interests. We also send quarterly magazines, postcards on Islamic holidays, and an Annual calendar with prayer times.

For families of current

& former inmates

2nd Chance Books is proud to launch our new Family Program! Family members of current and former the 2nd Chance program participants can join to receive complimentary titles from our partner organizations Al-Kisa Foundation

We are only serving youth (0-17) for now. Insha’Allah we can expand the program in future. Adults can access our Sirat Link magazine under the Free Resources tab. If you are interested in learning more about Islam, we recommend visiting Islamicbeliefs.com for begining materials or Al-Islam.org for advanced ones. Islamic Beliefs also has religious scholars available for consultation.

InshaʾAllah, the goal of this program is to help connect incarcerated Muslims with their families and to share books with those in need. We hope to support families’ education and their interest in Islam. If you would like to be part of this effort, you can sponsor an inmate here! Sponsorship includes an inmate’s curriculum books, annual calendar, quarterly magazines, prayer items, and the books sent to their families.

For correctional

chaplains in the US

Chaplains are crucial allies in our mission of bringing Shi’i Islam to incarcerated individuals. As a chaplain, you have a unique opportunity to provide spiritual guidance and support to those in need within the prison community.

By getting involved, you can help us bridge the gap and ensure that inmates have access to the religious resources and counsel they require. Your expertise and dedication will play a vital role in uplifting and empowering incarcerated individuals on their spiritual journey. Join us as a chaplain and make a lasting impact within the prison community, helping to create an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals seeking connection and growth.

Together, let’s bring positive change through the power of faith.

Hear from our inmates

“Brothers, it has been over 7 years since I have been involved with 2nd Chance. I have grown in understanding of my faith and have found your programs assistance invaluable.(…)
I will soon go home. My intentions are to go straight to a Howza. I am surrounded by Salafis, which is very popular with the inmates in Maryland. I am officially not welcomed by them.
I am ostracized by this Ummah. I draw my strength by Allah (swt). My faith holds me.
I could never turn my back on my Holy Ahlulbayt”.
